Urticaria PigmentosaDefinition Urticaria Pigmentosa is a most common form of mastocytosis, which is caused by excessive numbers of inflammatory cells in the skin. Urticaria pigmentosa is characterized by transient itchy pale dermal swellings secondary to the release of histamine and possibly other vasoactive agents from mast cells. In general urticaria Pigmentosa disappears by puberty. It is considered a self-limiting benign disease. Urticaria pigmentosa is a disease that produces skin lesions and intense itching . If the lesions are rubbed, hives may form on the site. They are located most commonly on the trunk, but are also seen on the extremities, head, and neck. These are of two types: Acute urticaria is often caused by an allergy and can last between several hours and six weeks; Chronic urticaria, is remains for a long time.
